Two Basic Essential Oils For Every Household
There are many essential oils suitable for daily use in our daily living. Anyway, if you are new to essential oils and would like to getting started with Aromatherapy Essential Oils, I would love to suggest you these two basic essential oils that are very popular in aromatherapy that should ideally be present in almost every household - Lavender and Tea Tree. These oils have innumerable uses and can be used with any kind of dilution.
Lavender Essential Oils - This oil calms, soothes the skin, balances oil production, helps to heal blemishes, stimulates circulation to skin, reduces inflammation of acne and soothes nervous system.
Lavender has often been called the ‘medicine chest in a bottle’ for its broad range of applications. Every home should keep Lavender on hand, even if no other oil is used, as it is so very effective on burns. Its anti-inflammatory action is responsible for the beginnings of modern aromatherapy, as Dr. Jean Valnet discovered Lavender’s healing properties after being burned in a laboratory accident.
Lavender is considered to speed wound healing and reduce scarring. The oil is also pleasantly calming, and can be used to reduce stress in a variety of situations – a commonly used technique is to apply Lavender oil ‘neat’ (undiluted) to the soles of the feet of patients recovering from almost any ailment
Tea Tree Essential Oils - Has antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic and antiviral properties. Heals blemishes without any side effects such as dryness, itching, stinging, burning or redness. Restores energy depleted by everyday stress, reduce or alleviate mental fatigue and exhaustion. Irritating to highly sensitive skin.
When first examined for it’s antiseptic properties, Tea Tree essential oil was found to be 100 times more powerful than carbolic acid – the medical standard at the time. Tea tree has an extremely broad range of antibiotic, antiviral, and antifungal properties that have been confirmed by modern scientific research.
Often used topically on small wounds, Tea Tree is also commonly found in oral hygiene preparations, and can also be effectively employed for Candida, athlete’s foot, and acne, among other things.
Everyday uses of these two essential oils -
- Add few drops of lavender essential oil in your hot bath to calm and soothe the skin.
- Add a few drops of Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oils to water in spray bottle and use as air freshener in rooms.
- Simply add a few drops of Lavender Essential oils into the cotton ball and place into pillow will help in promoting better sleep.
- To disinfect the air in your home especially during/after an illness, and Tea Tree and use as air spray, or add to water when washing the floor.
- A drop or two of lavender oil massaged on pressure points below ears relieves tension.
- Flies and moths dislike Lavender oils. Sprinkle it on the outside of your window frames.
- To make a natural flea collar, saturate a short piece of cord or soft rope with Tea Tree oil, roll up in a handkerchief and tie loosely around the animal’s neck.
- Apply few drops of lavender oil diluted with any base oil to damp skin for best absorption.
- Dab a drop of tea tree oil, 2 or 3 times a day at the first sign of a blemish or cold sores.
- Few drops of lavender essential oil mixed with a tbsp of honey makes a lovely facial mask.
- Dilute few drops of lavender oil with olive oil and massage into damp clean skin.
- Few drops of tea tree oil in a cup of water makes a good antibacterial mouth rinse.
- A drop of tea tree oil around the gum line may help prevent or reverse gum problem.
- Baby shampoo mixed with few drops of tea tree and lavender oil makes a nice wipe solution
- Few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oils with olive oil can be apply to the diaper area.
- To massage the baby, mix few drops of lavender oil in a base of sweet almond or olive oil.
- For healthy fingernails and toenails, massage a drop of tea tree oil on the nail bed and drop under the nail too.
- Lavender oil will stop the itching and soothe insect & mosquitoes bits, stings.
- Apply few drops of diluted tea tree oil to small scratches, scraps and minor skin irritations.
