Proper Storage for Essential oils
It is very important that we store our precious essential oils in the correct way to ensure the essential oil quality and avoid wastage. The best way to store our essential oil is in amber, cobalt blue or other dark colour glass container to protect them from lights. We must store the essential oils out from direct sunlight and any heat source, preferably in dark cabinet and cool dry place.
Remember to keep the essential oils out of the reach of children, because their potency can be dangerous if misused. Another important things is to keep all essential oils proper label, so that we know what is exactly content in each bottle.
We MUST NOT use the plastic or rubber container to store essential oils. As time pass, the essential oils gassing off will softened the container, hence effect the quality of the essential oils inside.
Another idea for keeping essential oils is to re-bottle the essential oil when they are used and half-full. This is because when it is half full, the air inside the vacant space encourages oxidation, this will shortern the essential oils life. If properly store, we can expect an essential oils to last at least 3 ~ 5 years. Post of unguents found in the ancient tombs of Egypt, thousands of years old, remain scented until today.
Another additioal information, is that essential oil can harm some vanished wood surface and some plastic especially pasxiglass. So, if we are mixing essential oils for using them in diffuser, it would be better to do it on glass or ceramic surface, to protect our furniture just in case of accidental spills.
