Safety Precaution of Aromatherapy Essential Oils
Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids that can be harmful and dangerous if not used in a proper way. We must first understand all the safety precaution of Aromatherapy Essential Oils before hand. Although essential oils have many benefits which help relax, sedate, balance, anti-bacterial, it is important to keep in mind that some essential oils may cause skin irritation, some are phototoxic or abortive which is high risk to be used during pregnancy. Choosing the right essential oils is very important.
Implementing aromatherapy into your lifestyle shouldn’t cause paranoia or undue worry, but remember not to use essential oils as a substitute for medical treatment if you are suffer from any serious disease.
It is important to choose the and nature essential oil for the use of our love one. But, even natural products can have side effects if not used properly, and some degree of care is needed when handling them. Here are some rules to follow when applying essential oils.
- When in doubt, always consult your physician and/or a qualified and trained aromatherapy practitioner.
- Pure undiluted essential oils should not be used directly on the skin.
- Some essential oils definitely not to be use during pregnancy, because they have the potential of causing abortion. Get advise from aromatherapy physician to choose for the right one if really want to use essential oil.
- Do not use Aromatherapy Essential Oils to replace medical treatment for serious disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer. But seek for qualified aromatherapist’s advise for aromatherapy which may helps while continue you normal medical treatment.
- Use smallest amount of essential oils. Less is More.
- Some essential oils may cause skin irritation. When using a new oil for the first time, do a test on a small area of skin. Place a small amount of the diluted essential oil (never use essential oils undiluted on the skin) on the inside of your elbow and apply a bandage. Wait 24 hours to see if there is any form of reaction. Even if a particular essential oil is not known to cause irritation, this step should not be ignored. Always keep in mind that even if an oil does not irritate your friend, it might irritant when you use the same oil.
- Not all essential oils are suitable for use in aromatherapy. Wormood, pennyroyal, onion, camphor, horseradish, wintergreen, rue, bitter almond and sassafras are some of the essential oils that should only be used by qualified aromatherapy practitioners, if ever at all.
- Keep out of reach of the children. When apply aromatherapy for children, always dilute the normal /adult amount by half or more, to make it safe for young children. Never let children use essential oils without adult knowledgeable.
- Essential oils should not be taken internally. Essential oils should only be taken internally after receiving a detailed consultation and prescription from a trained and qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
- Essential oils are flammable. Keep them out of the way of fire hazards. It is advise to keep essential oils away from light to ensure the quality.
- Do not use on the eyes or near the eyes.
Safety Precaution of essential oils always come as priority whenever you implementing Aromatherapy.
