Steam Inhalation
Add two drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming water. Covering your head and bowl of water with a towel, inhale the healing vapours.Steam inhalation can help with colds and influenza. Use of energizing or relaxing oils can also make this method useful any time of day or night.

What is Aromatherapy?

You may think of aromatherapy as just the newest candle-selling trick, but this method has actually been around for centuries. Aromatherapy is a holistic healing method that combines the science of essential oils with the art of listening to the body, and applying the appropriate essences to re-harmonise the imbalances.It helps improving health and emotions using the pure essense extracted from flowers, seeds, shrubs or other parts of the plant. These essense are know as the essential oils. Extraction of Essential Oils

 Extraction of Essential OilsOnly nature can produce whole essential oils. Essential oils are tiny droplets contained in glands, glandular hairs, sacs, or veins of different plant parts, like leaves, bark, flowers, stem, roots and fruits. They are the “essence” of the particular plant that giving the plants its unique scent.

There are three principal methods of extracting essential oils from aromatic plants. These are: distillation process; expression process; extraction using volatile solvents; and enfleurage process.

Distillation Process
Distillation process or steam distillation is the most common process method for obtaining essential oils from a plant. The process involve heating and the steam is force into a vat of plant material, where it breaks open and reptures these glands releasing the precious oils, vapor is formed, then cooling the vapor until it becomes liquid. This is when the essential oils are collected.

Distillation is an economical and popular method used in essential oils extraction. However , it still may take hundreds, or even thousands pound of plant parts to distill a single pound of the essential oils. That’s why, some essential oils will vary greatly in their cost.

Patchouli

 PatchouliPatchouli, this fragrant herb, with soft, opposite, egg-shaped leaves and square stems, grows from 2 to 3 feet in height, giving out the peculiar, characteristic aroma of patchouli when rubbed. Its whitish flowers, tinged with purple, grow in both axillary and terminal spikes. The crop is cut two or three times a year, the leaves being dried and packed in bales and exported for distillation of the oil. The best oil is freshly distilled near the plantations. It is popular in production of perfume and soap, and it is widely-used both in Asia and India.

Essential Oil of Patchouli is thick, the colour being brownish-yellow tinted green. It contains coerulein, the vivid blue compound found in matricaria, wormwood and other oils. It deposits a solid, or stearoptene, patchouli alcohol, leaving cadinene. Its use is said to cause sometimes loss of appetite and sleep and nervous attacks. The Chinese, Japanese and Arabs believe it to possess prophylactic properties.

Neroli

 NeroliNeroli oil is a plant oil similar in scent to bergamot produced from the blossom of the bitter orange tree.

Neroli has a refreshing and distinctive, spicy aroma with sweet and flowery notes. It is one of the most widely used floral oils in perfume industry. It is a non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing, non-photo-toxic substance. More than 12% of all modern quality perfumes use Neroli as their principal ingredient and it is most of the synthetic components available on the market.

As an essential oil, used in aromatherapy and aromatherapy massage, Neroli is considered to have a soothing effect on the nervous system.Traditionally, neroli oil was used not only to relieve tension, it increase blood circulation too. A solution is made by adding three or four drops of the essential oil to one cup of either sweet almond or wheat germ oil. The oil is then fixed by adding grapefruit seed extract, but if the solution is to be used on children or pregnant women, only half the quantity of essential oil should be used.
